T.G.I.F.

Need I say more?...........................

Woo Hoo!!

The 8th grade played North Lamar, there, Thursday night.  We lost 24-8, but those boys played sooo good!  I know that sounds weird to say they lost but played good, but if you'd have seen last week's game, you'd know what I mean!!  I have to brag a little.....Caleb made the only touchdown last night.  He picked up North Lamar's fumble and ran it in for a TD then our extra 2 points was good.  Later he caught the kick-off and ran about 50 yards before they managed to bring him down.  He ran about 30 of those yards "carrying" about 5 boys along for the ride!!  It was so awesome and those boys were soo pumped up!!  Even though they didn't win, you couldn't tell it....they were pumped and high 5'ing and so excited!!

Sad Tigers

Well, as you can see....we didn't win last night.  We were just off it seems.  Looked like nearly every play was off....lots of fumbles, missed passes.  But we're not gonna let this get keep us down.  We're gonna come back next week full of fire and beat Paris!!!!

Tigers vs. Rabbits

Well, the MVJH Tigers will go up against the Atlanta Rabbits tonight at home.  This is the 2nd District game, we played Pleasant Grove last week and won 14-6.  The boys really needed that win to boost their spirits.  Hope they play as well tonight and can put another win under their belt!!!  Stay tuned......

Texas/OU Week-end!

GO LONGHORNS!!!!!

My boss is an OU fan and member of their alumni, so we continually pick on each other during college football season.  He teases me about the Longhorns and I tease him about OU.  Texas just HAS to beat OU!!!  I have to be able to go back to work Monday with a victory!!!  Hook 'em Horns!!

Gather at the River

This was not my chair, but you get the idea!

One of our daughters and son-in-law own some property on the Red River.  They are in the process of building a "hunting cabin".  This weekend we spent some time up there.  Mike and Caleb were helping build it and then Sunday they went down to the river and tried their hands at fishing.  They were using that nasty "stink bait"!!  It's disgusting.....they all got some bites, but every time they would bring their line and hook in, it would be empty.  This went on for a few hours.  Caleb even tried wading out into the river some, where he was sure they're be bigger, better fish, but still nothing.  I took my lawn chair and sat on the sand with my Diet Coke and magazine and soaked up the sun.  It was so peaceful and serene.  I was sitting there looking around and watching them fish when we first got there and I couldn't help but thank God for creating such beauty.  Sometimes we don't "stop to smell the roses" enough.  But when we do, it's just almost breathtaking and makes me know what an AWESOME God we have.  Enjoy your week.  I will post pictures next time we go.....got off, of course, without my camera!!

Smurfs & Grasshoppers!!

Last Saturday the 24th was our youngest granddaughter's 1st soccer game!  Averie's team is called the Smurfs and their opponent was the Grasshoppers!  It was quite entertaining to say the least.....the Smurfs were all jumbled up with the Grasshoppers and it was TOTAL mayhem!!  Averie had to take lots of water breaks and would have rather sit in either Memaw Sue's lap or in mine (Nana's).  Our team would kick it really good the 1st time and then they seemed to just watch or even help the Grasshoppers get it down to their goal.  They hadn't seemed to grasp the concept of kicking it into their own goal!  Needless to say the Grasshoppers whopped the Blue Smurfs 7-0.  It was fun to watch.  The played again today and lost 2-0, but they had fun running all around the field just the same.

Well, the 8th grade lost to Winnsboro last night. I don't know what happened....if they were just "off" or what. It was perfect football weather except for the little rain shower we got. Now, don't get me wrong...we most definitely need the rain, but it was just enough, along with the cool temperatures, to give you a chill all over, especially if you had to share an umbrella like myself!! It's a little hard trying to fit 3-4 people under 1 umbrella!! I WILL come better equipped and prepared for the varsity game tonight right down to my purple umbrella!!! LOL Caleb had a big turnout for his game and I can't thank everyone who comes out to support him how much it means. I know it means a lot to him, because he asks me every week, "who's coming to my game?" We won't let this defeat get us down......we'll make up for it next week. I can really see a big improvement in the Jr. High this year. I really believe that our new coaching staff along with "not so new coaches" and the new Athletic Director are really going to make a big difference in our athletic department and in our boys (or girls) lives. GO TIGERS!!!

Tiger Football

Well, I'm back. It's been quite awhile since I've blogged!!! It's that time again, fall is beginning in the air as well as Tiger Football here in Mt. Vernon!!! Hooray!! My youngest son, Caleb is in 8th grade this year and plays EVERY sport he possibly can. They had their 1st game last week against Cooper, there, and he made the 1st touchdown of the game and it was also his VERY FIRST touchdown too! He ran about 70-80 yards and needless to say, was ecstatic afterwards. We tease him all the time about "his head swelling up"! Tonight we play here against Winnsboro and I hope they play as well or better than last week. I had to laugh at him last week, because when we picked him up, his sister, Megan asked him why he was doing such and such during the game and he replied, "I was listening for my name on the loudspeaker!!" Good Luck Tigers!!

Season of Giving & True Friendship

I had quite a week-end!! Whew, glad it's over, but it was truly a blessing in disguise. My best friend, who has been with me since high school is going through a really rough time. She's going through a really nasty and messy divorce and had to move this past weekend. I helped her move along with her family. We moved all hers and her boys things, furniture, etc. On Sunday, myself and 2 of her sisters stayed at the "new" house and thought we'd get a "few" of their things put away and maybe their beds set up. We worked sooo hard all day while she was at her old house packing and getting last minute things done. Her boys kept bringing load after load and just basically unloading it and going back for more. There was no talking, at the "new" house, every once in a while, we'd run into each other since we were trying to get as we feverishly worked to get as much done as possible before she got there!! I don't know how we did it, but by 6:00 pm when she got there we had put EVERYTHING away, set up each and every room, hung pictures on the walls and was even able to put up and decorate her Christmas tree!!!! We were so excited, but the most precious thing about it all was the look on her face when she walked in and saw her new home completely done and the tree up with gifts under it!!!! She was absolutely speechless!!! In all the years I've known her, that's NEVER happened!!! We were TOTALLY exhausted, but seeing how happy she and her boys were and the looks on their faces was all worth it. In this season of giving, that was the best gift I have ever given someone. It was so rewarding to see the joy on their faces and the tears of joy!!! I will not post her name right now, due to the nature of her situation and the messiness of the divorce, but those who are close to me, know who I'm talking about and I ask that everyone pray for her and her boys so that they may have the strength to get through this difficult time. And to my very best friend in the world.....I love you so much and am so glad I have you in my life.

Happy Birthday Megan!!

I would like to wish my wonderful daughter, Megan a very Happy Birthday!!! It was 23 years ago today that my life changed forever!!! I was so very proud that day and I am even more proud today!! Your are the apple of my eye and a very special person. I can't imagine my life without you in it. It's hard to believe your 23 years old, seems like just yesterday that you were born. You were such a good baby and so full of life and always a couple of years ahead of your age. You never met a stranger and loved people as you do now. These past 23 years have been a true blessing to me and watching you become the young woman you are has been a treasure. (Though at times it was a little rocky) I wouldn't change one thing and I just want you to know how proud I am of you and who you have blossomed into and you are one of my best friends and I miss you terribly!! Hope you have a great birthday!!! I love you so much, Mom

Holiday Favorites

Like most people, I have a few holiday favorites. Whether it be foods, movies, songs, etc. Here are a few of my favorite holiday things. I love to bake during the holidays. Anything from cookies to main dishes. Just the cold winter days make me want to cook or bake. Have a couple of "stand by" treats I usually make during the holidays. One is called Pecan Bark the other is called "Reindeer Poop". I know, bad name!! I got the recipe from the wife of a guy I used to work with. It's really good. I love watching Christmas movies during the holidays. My favorite is White Christmas and next would be National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I don't care how many times you watch it, you laugh so hard everytime you watch it. I love Christmas shopping and wrapping the presents. Like being lazy sometimes on the weekends and just hanging out at home, wrapping presents, baking or just under a blanket watching movies. Lifetime also has a lot of good holiday movies. What are some of your favorites?

BURR!!

Well, another year has passed and it was time to put up the Christmas lights on the outside of the house. My son, Colby always helps me do that (he really does all the work!). This year we were going to do it a couple of weekends ago, when it was warmer, but he couldn't. So as always, we were out in the freezing cold last weekend. The wind was blowing 100 mph, it was misting rain, almost felt like snow and some of the lights didn't work after we got them up. After trying to fix the lights that didn't work, and after our fingers were numb, I decided to go get new ones and be done with it. Easy enough you say!!! WRONG! We got the new lights up and when we got ready to plug in the extension cord, we had ended with the wrong end! Well, I had to go in and warm up so Colby fixed that little problem, got the wreath hung on the chimney and whew, we thought we were done. Plugged them in and the very 1st strand we put up had about a 12 inch section that didn't work. I was back in the house looking out and Colby was quite disgusted by this time and mumbling to himself!! I figured it would be best if I stayed out of his way and so after working for quite a while, gave up. I wasn't happy that a section didn't work. And of course it was on the front of the house, but Colby said, "Mom, nobody will even notice". It really went against my grain to have lights that didn't work, but in the end I gave in and let it be. They really look nice and if you don't know it, you can't really tell there's a small section not working. Thanks Colby!!
